Stunning color combination of Alaskan White exterior with red leather interior. 6.8L 413ci "Wedge-Head" V8 engine, 3-speed torqueflite automatic transmission with selector push buttons on the dash. This Imperial Crown Southampton was coddled by the famed and legendary designer Virgil Exner. He insisted it be built unibody, and have 'floating headlights' and 'floating tail lights' that are separated from the body. 1961 is the only model year to ever feature floating headlights and tail lights. Exner's original plan was to offer this Imperial to compete directly with the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado and 1959 Lincoln Continental Mark IV. Due to behind the scene corporate politics, infighting, and back stabbing, it was not released until 1961. Imagine how many Chrysler executive's were fired over this fiasco. This Imperial is believed to be a survivor, retaining all original glass and chrome trim, original interior, and original drivetrain. Factory options include; factory air conditioning, heater, pop-up vents on the dashboard for the climate control system, power windows, power steering, power driver's seat, push button controls, 'square' steering wheel, 15" steel wheels with original wheel covers and wide white-wall tires. Full instrumentation includes clock, push button transmission, and original electric golden touch tuner AM radio. Just had a buyer's inspection performed and of course it passed easily. Recent repairs include a full new exhaust system, oil and filter change, new tie rod ends and idler arm, new front brakes including wheel cylinders and brake lines, rebuilt carburetor, and comprehensive tune up.
